#3 IT
The most hyped horror movie in the last 5 years! It lived up and exceeded the expectations. I remember watching this movie after OU had beaten Ohio State on the road and the theater was absolutely packed with ruckus OU fans. The atmosphere in the theatre made the movie much more fun than it should have been.
After the success of Stranger Things, child actors taking over in thriller films has become a great idea. The kid actors and actresses cracking jokes in this movie makes the movie the great time that it is.
Bill Skarsgård puts in an absolutely phenomenal performance and creates a version of Penny-wise that is still to this day one of the most scariest creatures ever put on screen. IT has a certain feeling to it that offers itself as an all around movie.
IT has scary moments mixed with creative comedic moments and plots that grabs you with intent.
#2 SAW VI
The best most in the eight film franchise. This movie was the best put together film in the series and had the best twists and turnarounds in it. Costas Mandylor put in the best performance in the series as the main protagonist. The game and reasoning for William’s torture throughout this movie made the most sense of any film.
The plot flowed the most and the pacing matched the intensity of the game being played well. For the first time in a while for the movies in the franchise, everything made sense. It was very refreshing and nice to see a SAW movie where everything made sense.
The reason this is ranked so high is because after watching this film, I never wanted to see the next one more than I did after seeing this one. SAW VI for me is the best in the series because it had the best ending of any of the movies, as well as the best character development throughout the movies. The right things happened and set up for a great Final Chapter as I mentioned before.
#1 GET OUT
Get out for me, is not only the greatest horror movie of all time, but one of the best put together movies in cinematic history. Daniel Kaluuya’s performance was Oscar nomination worthy and changed the landscape of the horror genre forever.
The elements of racially different relationships mixed with the most accurate of social comedy makes a true masterpiece. Watching this movie with my 3 other friends of different backgrounds (Indian, Hisanic and Caucasian) made for some interesting reactions in the theater.
Jordan Peele’s directing in his first outing as a director is indeed thing of legends as he had an idea, and flushed it out so beautifully, that he has made a movie that will be talked about for years to come.
A lot of people wish for a sequel, but like some other entries on this list, it is a one-hit wonder that is a masterpiece all on it’s own.
Seek out this movie, watch it and be apart of something historical in a film this great. It won’t be topped for a while, rightfully so.
