Top 10 Favorite Horror Movies 7-4

#7 Saw: The Final Chapter

The second installment from the SAW series on this list is the 2nd to last one in the entire series. Before 2017’s JIGSAW which revamped the series, this chapter had a closing statement to the series like no other.

The wrapping up of a long story that produced torture-porn year in and year out came to a close with it’s original story in this film. The thrilling final act puts all the pieces of the past 6 films together in a fantastic finish.

The plot and character development of the self-help guru of a fake Jigsaw killer is genius and lends itself to a game he must play that almost everyone actually wants him to lose!

After finishing this film, everything makes sense in the SAW series and creates an atmosphere that satisfy’s longtime viewers of the series. This film also implicated 3D for the first time in the series and contributed to some gruesome moments in the film.

#6 A Quiet Place

What makes this movie so different from others is the sound editing and ways in which to bring about horror in films. A Quiet Place is around 80% a silent film. You have to pay attention and this movie makes everyone in the theater or at home feel bad just for opening a bag of chips or getting food.

John Krasinski directed a one-hit wonder piece that will stay relevant for years to come. The direction in which he took with the film, making it feel grounded and close to the family made for entertainment in the worst manner.

Some of the scenes are heart-wrenching and make you grip the edge of your seats multiple times awaiting the next moment the monsters come. The use of ASL and communication for the characters to stay in touch throughout a mostly silent post-apocalyptic world is innovative and different.

#5 A Cabin in the Woods

A mostly slept-on film for it’s years in the genre, but still has great tropes in the horror genre. Why this movie is so high on my list is because it brings together two great stars before they were superstars and places them in a unique movie and shine bright! Chris Hemsworth and Jesse Williams kill their roles as typical college kids going to live in the woods for a weekend.

What makes this film so distinct from others is how it plays into every trope of horror, gore and thriller movies, throws them in your face and rolls with it. You have to suspend your disbelieve for this movie so much, however, it’s worth it as every scene is full of laughs and gore.

#4 The Conjuring 2

Not many movies truly frighten me, this one…in an exception. No movie has made me throw my popcorn in the air, but this one has.

The movies on this list, as they get higher in ranking posses better acting from the actors in it. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga destroy it in their roles as the Warrens and put in a great performance battling the supernatural.

Some of the jump scares and entities in this movie (such as the Crooked Man) truly are terrifying and are hard to look at. The sound mixing, editing and pacing of the film keep you clued every second of the way. You definitely need to watch the first to experience the power behind the second. However, comparing the two, this is a sequel that outdoes the original.
