#10: Black Swan
This doesn’t mean that it’s a bad horror movie, it just means that it doesn’t have as many horror tropes as the others on this list.
However, Natalie Portman turns in an Oscar performance as a mentally troubled ballet dancer that goes through a complete breakdown. This movie is a roller coaster of a thrill ride that gives you cringe moments and psychological terror. From the skin crawling scenes of nails and skin pealing, to the epic transformation into the Black Swan that Natalie makes, Darren Aronofsky put together a skill crawling edition to the horror genre.

#9: Coraline
The only animated entrance on this list has it’s elements of horror with the alternate family and dimensional terror. This movie is also a one-hit wonder with kids who watched it back in 2009. This film was a great use of the art of clay stop-motion and ushered in something new for the horror genre.
It wasn’t just entertaining, but also brought something different for teens watching it because it genuinely had scenes that scared and were also great at moving the plot along. Great watch for both teens and adults.

#8: SAW
As a kid wanting to be scared and horrified growing up, nothing captured my attention more than the original installment of a fantastic horror franchise in SAW.
WARNING: The acting isn’t the best in the first movie because the budget was so small, however, the small budget that James Wan had worked in his favor keeping everything grounded in just a few scenes. The story line that would kick off an 8 long film franchise was so different back in 2004 that to this day, no other horror film franchise is even close. With a budget of only 1 million and making 100x that, a successful beginning to a great series.
